Concealment of a Firearm or Weapon under Pennsylvania Law

Pennsylvania Consolidated Statute §6106 defines the offense of concealment or a firearm or weapon as:

Any person who carries a firearm in any vehicle or any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person, except in his place of abode (residence) or fixed place of business, without a valid and lawfully issued license commits a felony of the third degree.

A felony in the third degree in the state of Pennsylvania comes with a presumptive sentence of up to 7 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $15,000.

According to Pa. Cons. St. 6106, certain individuals are permitted to carry firearms without a license. These people include, but are not limited to:

  • Constables,
  • Sheriffs,
  • Prison or jail wardens,
  • Members of the military,
  • Anyone engaged in target shooting,
  • Officers or employees of the United States
  • Agents of common carriers,
  • Any person engaged in the business of manufacturing, dealing or repairing firearms.
